Washing your Micro Greens

You should rinse your microgreens.   Even if you buy from someone besides us, and they tell you not to worry, you still want to rinse your microgreens.

Your microgreens have probably not been washed because microgreens that are cut and put away wet or damp turn to mush really fast.  No grower wants you to have mushy gross microgreens.

Best practice is to rinse them before immediate use & check out the drying & storage tips we recommend to avoid mushy greens.

If you rinse and store MicroGreens in the refrigerator without allowing them to fully dry,  it will get mushy.

1.    Rinse and Pat Dry

Remove your greens from their package/bag.  Rinse under a gentle stream of water.

Use a clean kitchen towel to gently dry your microgreens.  Remember, do not store your cut microgreens if they are wet.   TIP: If your washed greens are mostly dry, you can slip a papertowel in with your microgreens to absorb any excess water.

2.    Use a Salad Spinner after rinsing your greens.

However, if you aren't planning on eating them right away, they still may be too wet for safe storage.  I recommend placing a clean paper towel or clean cloth napkin in with your microgreens before refrigerating.  The towel will absorb some of that extra moisture and prolong the life of your freshly rinsed microgreens.

TIP Please Read: Although we don’t want to store oversaturated greens we also don’t want the to lose freshness when being stored in the refrigerator. I have found, checking the greens in their bag and misting the top allows the greens to stay crispier longer without being too damp! More so for sunflowers and pea shoots! This may be a little extra effort but its a great tip for longer storage. ALTHOUGH we always recommend eating them immediately, That’s when they are their FRESHEST.
